Finavia has appointed Mirka Turunen as the new Airport Manager of Oulu Airport, with her tenure set to begin on October 5, 2026.
Turunen will be responsible for the overall management of the airport as well as cooperation with airlines, businesses and other local stakeholders.
The appointment places her at the helm of one of the busiest airports in Finavia’s Finnish network, with Oulu ranking third by passenger numbers.
“We are very pleased to have Mirka as the Airport Manager of Oulu Airport,” said Jonna Pietilä, Finavia’s Regional Director of Northern Finland and Lapland Airports.
“Mirka has strong expertise in managing service environments, developing the customer experience, stakeholder cooperation and implementing change and development projects.”
Pietilä added that maintaining strong operating conditions for airlines and providing a positive passenger experience will remain key priorities at Oulu.
Turunen brings experience from service and logistics sectors
Turunen, who holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree, has previously worked in several roles across the service and logistics industries.
Her experience includes customer experience development, stakeholder relations and the implementation of organisational change and development projects.
She also served on the Board of Directors of Ranuan Seudun Matkailu Oy between 2021 and 2025, giving her additional experience within Finland’s tourism sector.
Oulu is Finavia’s third-busiest airport
Oulu Airport, which opened in 1953, handled 545,034 passengers in 2025, making it the third-busiest airport in Finavia’s network by passenger volume.
Domestic travel accounts for the vast majority of its traffic, with approximately 90% of passengers in 2025 travelling on domestic flights.
The airport serves Oulu and the surrounding region in northern Finland and provides an important air connection between the area and Helsinki.
Turunen will officially take over management of Oulu Airport on October 5.
