Schiphol Expects Over 12.7 Million Passengers This Summer

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is preparing for another record summer, expecting over 12.7 million travelers between July 3 and August 30, 2026 — up from around 12.4 million during the same period last year.

The airport anticipates an average of 219,000 travelers per day across departures, arrivals, and transfers, compared to approximately 213,000 per day in summer 2025. Daily breakdowns point to around 71,000 departing passengers, 71,000 arriving, and 77,000 transferring.

Spain, the United Kingdom, and Greece top the list of popular destinations this summer, followed by Italy, Turkey, and the United States, with Portugal, Germany, France, and Ireland also featuring strongly — a picture broadly similar to last year.

To help passengers navigate the busy period, Schiphol has shared eight practical tips. Key among them: plan your journey to the airport in advance accounting for possible road congestion or public transport disruptions; check in online and follow airline-recommended arrival times; and book a free security timeslot via the Schiphol app or website, available up to three days before departure.

The airport also reminds travelers that power banks must always be carried in hand baggage, never in hold luggage, due to fire risk from lithium-ion batteries. Thanks to 3D CT scanners now in use at Schiphol, electronics no longer need to be removed from bags at security, though the standard 100ml liquid rule still applies. Passengers are also encouraged to use the Schiphol app for real-time flight and terminal updates throughout their journey.
