Airlines & Airports

Manchester Airport announces new direct flights to Reggio Calabria, Italy, with Ryanair. Starting April 28, travelers can explore Italy's hidden gem, Calabria, known for its beaches, history, and cuisine.

Manchester Airport is set to begin direct flights to Reggio Calabria, Italy, starting this April 28th, marking it the first UK airport to offer a direct route to this enchanting destination. Operated by Ryanair, the flights will run twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays, with fares starting from as little as £14.99 one-way.

Reggio Calabria, located in the southwest of Italy, acts as a gateway to the Calabria region, often dubbed as Italy’s 'best kept secret'. The area is celebrated for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culinary scene. This new route is expected to draw travelers eager to explore less-trodden paths in Italy, offering a blend of cultural richness and scenic beauty.

Stephen Turner, Chief Commercial Officer at Manchester Airport, expressed enthusiasm about the new route: “We are proud to connect people in the North with an outstanding range of destinations. This new service to Reggio Calabria is exciting because it’s a brand-new destination for us and isn’t currently served by any other UK airport."

The city of Reggio Calabria itself is steeped in history, dating back over 3,000 years, making it one of the oldest cities in Italy. Attractions include the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, which houses important ancient artifacts and is accessible for just 8 Euros for adults.

Travelers can also indulge in the unique flavors of Calabrian cuisine, influenced by various cultures throughout history, including the Greeks, Arabs, and Spanish. Local specialties include the fiery 'Nduja salami, exquisite cheeses, and robust wines.

Jade Kirwan, Head of Communications at Ryanair, also commented on the new route: "This summer Ryanair will operate over 80 routes to/from Manchester Airport, offering our customers in the North even more choice at the lowest fares. Our new Manchester to Reggio route, along with additional new routes to Dubrovnik and Tangier, highlights our commitment to expanding our service and providing more travel options to our customers."

This connection not only enhances travel opportunities for Northern England residents but also promises to boost tourism in Calabria, introducing more international visitors to its scenic beaches, historic towns, and culinary delights.
