IHG Signs First Garner Hotel in Ahmedabad, India

IHG Signs First Garner Hotel in Ahmedabad, India

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed its first Garner hotel in Ahmedabad, continuing the expansion of its midscale conversion brand across India.

Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera is scheduled to open in 2029 with 40 rooms. The property will be developed by Devpriya Buildcon and operated by United Hospitality Management (UHM) India under a franchise agreement with IHG.

The signing expands IHG’s presence in Ahmedabad and strengthens its partnership with UHM, one of the hotel group’s third-party management partners in India.

The hotel will be located at the Motera-Sabarmati junction in North Ahmedabad, putting it close to several major infrastructure, sporting and commercial developments.

Nearby destinations include Narendra Modi Stadium and the Sabarmati Bullet Train hub, as well as corporate districts in the northern part of the city.

Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera will form part of a mixed-use development incorporating retail, restaurant and banquet facilities as well as a hospital.

The hotel itself will have 40 rooms designed around the Garner brand’s focus on functional midscale accommodation.

“Ahmedabad continues to emerge as an important commercial and infrastructure growth centre, supported by strong economic activity and expanding connectivity,” said Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

“Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera is a meaningful addition to our India growth strategy and reflects the appeal of the brand’s model for high-potential markets.”

Garner Continues Expansion in India

Garner is one of IHG’s newest brands and was created to compete in the midscale hotel segment with a model particularly suited to conversions.

The concept focuses on essential elements including convenient locations, comfortable rooms and breakfast while giving hotel owners access to IHG’s distribution, operating systems and loyalty platform.

The Ahmedabad signing reflects IHG’s strategy of using Garner to expand more rapidly in markets where conversion and franchise opportunities can complement newly built hotels.

For UHM India, the agreement also expands an existing relationship with IHG.

“Each new signing reflects the confidence that owners place in the combined strength of IHG’s globally recognised brands and UHM’s local operating expertise,” said Deepika Arora, Managing Director of United Hospitality Management India.

Ahmedabad Hotel Market Attracts Further Investment

Ahmedabad is one of India’s major commercial and industrial centres, with significant activity across pharmaceuticals, textiles, information technology and infrastructure.

Investment in transport and sports infrastructure is also creating additional demand for accommodation, particularly around Motera and Sabarmati.

“Ahmedabad’s economic growth, infrastructure development and rising visitor demand make it an attractive market for branded hospitality,” said Prashant Thakkar, Partner at Devpriya Buildcon.

The new Garner will join an IHG portfolio in Ahmedabad that currently includes Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre and Holiday Inn Express Ahmedabad Prahlad Nagar.

Holiday Inn Ahmedabad is also in the company’s development pipeline.

IHG Pipeline in India Reaches 110 Hotels

IHG currently operates 53 hotels across six brands in India: Six Senses, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, voco, Holiday Inn Resort and Holiday Inn Express.

The hotel group has another 110 properties in its Indian development pipeline, which are expected to open over the next three to five years.

The pipeline represents more than twice IHG’s current operating hotel count in the country and will introduce additional brands and properties across established cities and emerging hospitality markets.

The signing of Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera adds another location to that expansion while bringing IHG’s Garner brand to Ahmedabad for the first time.
