Eurowings and AEGEAN Airlines announce a bilateral codeshare agreement, expanding flight options between Greece and Germany and enhancing travel choices for passengers.

Eurowings and AEGEAN Airlines Enter Strategic Codeshare to Enhance European Connectivity

In a move poised to significantly enhance air travel options between Greece and Germany, Eurowings and AEGEAN Airlines have officially announced a bilateral codeshare partnership. This collaboration is set to enrich the travel experience for passengers, offering a broader range of direct flights to some of the most sought-after regions in Greece and Germany.

Under this new agreement, flights operated by AEGEAN—the carrier renowned for its extensive knowledge of Greece—will now be available for booking under Eurowings flight numbers. Conversely, Eurowings' flights will be accessible under AEGEAN flight numbers, with both airlines marketing these flights through their respective channels.

The initial phase of this partnership will see AEGEAN placing its code on direct Eurowings flights from Heraklion (Crete) and Thessaloniki to various bases in Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Eurowings will reciprocate by coding AEGEAN flights directly connecting Athens and Thessaloniki with its German and Czech bases. The plan includes a gradual expansion of their joint flight offerings.

Eurowings CEO, Jens Bischof, emphasized the strategic importance of this cooperation, aligning with the airline's European growth ambitions and bolstering its status as Germany's leading leisure airline. "This agreement arrives at an opportune moment, marking the strongest incoming bookings in four years, signaling a robust market evolution for the 2024 travel season," Bischof noted.

AEGEAN's Chief Commercial Officer, Roland Jaggi, echoed the enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its potential to extend the airline's network, offer more travel options to customers, and reinforce its strategy of creating value through alliances with key partners. Jaggi underscored the collaboration's role in generating new opportunities for passengers and supporting both the airlines and the Greek tourism sector.

This codeshare agreement expands Eurowings' pan-European focus, following its ongoing collaboration with Czech airline Smartwings initiated in 2021, and a 2023 sales partnership with Spanish carrier Volotea. These alliances collectively offer travelers over 140 connections across Europe, significantly broadening the range of travel options available through each partner's website.
