Vietnam Airlines Moves to Heathrow for its UK Services

Airline News

Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam's national carrier, has announced its nonstop UK services to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will take off from Heathrow starting with 31st March 2015. Terminal 4 is where the airline will move, where it will join SkyTeam.

With Vietnam Airline's move to Heathrow from Gatwick, the airline expects to register a significant increase in non-stop services to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, which now will get to one daily service after dispositioning new Boeing 787-9s on its UK flights.

With the introduction of the new next-generation Dreamliners, Heathrow will become the first international destination served by Vietnam Airlines. The aircraft will feature fully flat beds in Business Class, Wi-Fi, and will also establish Vietnam Airline's corporate identity and new branding, trying to reaffirm its position as the number one carrier in Indochina.

"Our vision, and that of Vietnam's government, is for Vietnam Airlines to become Southeast Asia's main carrier. In order to realize that vision, it is essential to establish Vietnam Airlines in the UK market. We also want to thank Gatwick Airport for its support, and for its positive role in the Vietnam - UK bilateral relations," commented Chief Executive Officer of Vietnam Airlines, Dr. Pham Ngoc Minh.

Moving our operations to Heathrow signifies an important step forward in achieving our goals, and even more so, we are happy with our progress so as it comes less than four years ago after launching the first ever non-stop service between the UK and Vietnam. We are thrilled that our customers will soon be able to benefit from daily flights on our latest, most comfortable aircraft, from one of the world's most iconic and best connected international airport hubs," added Dr. Pham.

Heathrow’s Chief Executive Officer, John Holland-Kaye, said: "According to the government, Vietnam is one of the top 20 growth markets for business in the UK. This new route confirms expanding Heathrow is the best solution to UK's economy, creating up to 180,000 new jobs and £211bn in GDP."
