UK visitors reach record numbers in Jamaica
According to the Jamaica Tourist Board the country was visited by breaking 210.000 UK and Ireland during last year.
This translates into a 4.34 per cent increase when compared to the previous year, meaning the Jamaican shores have become more appealing for UK tourists aiming to relax and have a great time. Nevertheless, it is important to mention that the figures released did not take into account cruise visitors, which means that Jamaica is starting to be one of the leading regional destinations if considering the overall number of tourists.
As British Airways and Thomson Airways have announced additional flights to the Caribbeans from the UK, the breaking numbers are expected to be even higher for the year to come.
With four weekly flights to Kingston from British Airways and more than 7.000 extra seats from Thompson directly to Montego Bay, this summer is expected to be a memorable one for tourists choosing Jamaica for their once in a lifetime experience.
Moreover, Edmund Bartlett, the Jamaican minister of tourism, aims to focus on gastronomy tourism market in order to boost visitor numbers to the island. Four other tourism sectors will be developed to attract more tourists from UK and Ireland: sports and entertainment, health and wellness, shopping and knowledge.
