Turkey: 563 years since the conquest of Constantinople

The Turkish nation celebrated last Sunday in Istanbul and also throughout the country, with enormous pyrotechnic shows, the 563 anniversary of the conquest of former Byzantine capital, Constantinople, AFP and DPA report
The events were organized throughout the country in order to celebrate the conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, also known only by the name of "the Conqueror”, that reached to become the leader of this legendary city in 1453. The celebrations were magnificent in all the major cities of Turkey, but the most spectacular were those organized in the city itself, now called Istanbul.
The celebration that happened in Istanbul put together a major showdown: starting with the Turkish air force demonstration, the festivity continued with a giant fireworks presentation of a 3D map of the city as it was in 1453, a concert conducted by a military orchestra consisting of 563 musicians and more such events.
Around one million visitors were estimated by the organizers to have come in the evening in the district of Yenikapi, the Golden Horn. For no incident of terrorist nature to destroy the event, the Turkish authorities had developed an important safety device, given the fact that Turkey was the victim during the last year of several attacks attributed to the Islamic State or Kurdish groups of rebels.
In order to create a safe environment, the strong Turkish mobilization consisted in a submarine, a frigate, five helicopters, 9,000 police officers, including 40 snipers, and dozens of dogs. All these were mobilized in Istanbul, the Anadolu news agency reports, quoting the Istanbul police chief.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yildirim took part in the festivity in Istanbul.
