The Bahamas and Royal Caribbean International sign new deal

News

The multi-year agreement aims to boost tourism into the archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean.

Focused on the increasing of the cruise industry in the area, Royal Caribbean International plans to employ and train Bahamian nationals in order to grow revenues from hospitality business. The local authorities and the American global cruise company will work together for an innovative training and development program.

The agreement, signed by the prime minister of the Bahamas Perry Christie and the president of RCI Michael Bayley, also aims to develop CocoCay island, the private destination in the islands, as well as to promote the Bahamian culture and traditions to its international guests.

“Royal Caribbean has been a long-standing partner of the islands of the Bahamas and their plans to significantly increase tourism to our country as well as to develop the talent of our youth and expand employment opportunities for Bahamians is commendable,” declared the prime minister.

New working opportunities will be opened for the students in Bahamas who target long-term cruise careers aboard of the RCI’s legendary ships.

“Tourism is an important engine of growth for the economy of destinations in the Caribbean and The Bahamas, and we are excited to bring more visitors on our newest and most innovative ships to this popular holiday spot. Our commitment to The Bahamas is multifold. It is our responsibility to contribute to the country’s economic diversity, to its employment base and the training of Bahamian youth as well as the protection of the environment. We are excited about the continued growth of tourism in The Bahamas, and look forward to doing our part to keep that growth and progress moving along in the years to come,” concluded the president of Royal Caribbean International.
