Qatar Airways Adds Boeing B747 Freighter to Its Fleet

Qatar Airways Cargo just added the first Boeing B747 freighter to its fleet after the aircraft completed its maiden flight from Doha to Hong Kong.

Qatar Airways Cargo uses Boeing B777s and Airbus A330s, which means the carrier has one of the most modern freighter fleets available.

The inclusion of the Boeing B747-400BCF aircraft with its 112.5 tonne capacity, will enable Qatar Airways Cargo to provide easy solutions to outsized freight transportation from businesses investing in large infrastructure projects in the Middle East and around the world.

"A dedicated charter aircraft will allow Qatar Airways Cargo to respond to the increasing demand from our customers for capacity in the ad-hoc charter market," said Qatar Airways chief officer, cargo, Ulrich Ogiermann.
"Qatar Airways Cargo continues to grow even more: we have achieved our status as the world's fifth largest cargo carrier by following a market-responsive strategy that is established by our global network and expanding fleet.
"The addition of the B747 freighter will bring more flexibility by improving our existing scheduled services as and when required."
The Boeing B747 freighter has a large side cargo door where it can be loaded easily and quickly, whether the cargo consists of standard containers and pallets or nonstandard, outsized objects.
Qatar Airways Cargo announced it is ordering four more Boeing B777Fs at the Paris Air Show in June.
