New Studio City opens in Macau

Hollywood-based Gary Goddard Entertainment + Design opens new $3.2 billion Studio City casino and resort in Macau peninsula, China
GGE is the international leader that designs major resorts and destination theme parks across the globe. The company designed Studio City’s concept, plan, interior and exterior architecture. The construction has been built using recyclable materials.

The multi-billion dollar project is not the first one designed by GGE in Macau as the Galaxy Macau Resort was previously inaugurated in 2011.

The 600,000-square-meter casino and resort is located in the Cotai Strip. Studio City was designed as a Macau’s version of the Vegas Strip in a unique Hollywood-like style. Parts of New York City, Hollywood and Beverly Hills were reconstructed to inspire the final concept. Also, Hollywood VIPs attended the Studio City opening event: Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese and Mariah Carey.

Leigh and Orange were the lead architects of the project.

Powerful statue figures representing male and female energy flank the Studio City's entrance: The Silver Titans and The Guardians of Light. The wall of the hotel's towers façade is a silver-reflective curtain.

But the major design innovation is the “Golden Reel” the world’s first figure eight ferris wheel at the impressive height of 130 meters, as for Chinese people the number eight symbolizes good fortune, health and prosperity. The feature provides the building with constant movement and color.

“Lawrence and I share a vision when it comes to Hollywood and the world of motion pictures, which has resulted in one of the most architecturally stunning integrated resorts we have ever created.

“The design for Studio City will also act as a magnet for visitors staying in Hong Kong and in cities throughout China who might not otherwise have planned a visit to Macau”, Gary Goddard notes about the company's newest work.
