Munich: the injured number reached 35

News

The number of injured people rose to 35 after the armed attack that happened on Friday evening at a shopping center in Munich and that was committed by a young man obsessed with mass murders, German police reported on Sunday according to DPA.

The number of the wounded also includes people who were injured because of the panic that was created in the city center after the attack, declared a spokesman.

The young German-Iranian who committed the attack was an eager reader of books and articles about mass crimes and was fascinated by the attacked that occurred in Norway and which were committed exactly five years ago, informed the police. Most of the people who were killed in Friday's attack were Turkish and Kosovo immigrant teenagers.

According to the witnesses and a recording made with a smartphone during the attack, the author had resentment towards foreigners, though he was also born in Germany as a son of some Iranian asylum seekers.

The police reported that the attacker, armed with a semiautomatic pistol illegally acquired, tried to attract people at a fast-food restaurant on Facebook by promising them free lunches. The investigators are still trying to determine the motivation behind the attacker’s behavior, but prosecutors and Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said the teenager was treated for depression and that he might have been intimidated by other young people.

The search at the residence of the attacker led to finding books such as a German translation of the book "Why Kids Kill: Inside the Minds of School Shooters" written by the American psychologist Peter Langman.

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared on Saturday after a meeting of the National Security Council, her deep sorrow for the unfortunate event.
