Lufthansa surcharge system recalibrated

Travel Business

By Michael Bobbin |

As of this April, the Lufthansa Group airlines will be using a brand new system of calculation for the ticketing surcharges.

The goal is to implement a new standard system for the international/domestic surcharge on intercontinental connections based on the flight route as a whole. The system currently functioning for Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and SWISS focuses on single, individual segments of the flight.

Another interesting feature will be the reduction of the official number of geographic areas from 9 to 6. This is a great tool for optimizing the costs towards an applicable standard.

Based on each destination, the international per domestic surcharge applied on intercontinental journeys departing form Europe will find itself in the range of €80 and €200 in Economy, and €100 - €250 in Business and First Class.

As far as the UK is concerned, the surcharge will be adapted to the competition’s.

This new way of applying surcharges will be implemented as of first of April for all the flights under the Lufthansa name.

The need for a system change has been issued as of last year, when Lufthansa expressed their need of adapting to the competition.

Along with economic shifts come necessary needs for adapting the services to the need of the targeted consumers. As flying has become one of the most versatile means of transportation, flight companies like Lufthansa start focusing their attention on optimizing fuel cost with a good offer for their clients. Intercontinental flying is definitely a very important aspect, as the recent travel trends have shown.

Flight companies concern is now a matter of standard as the quest for better services revolves around the degree of professional analysis of all the aspects related to the process of traveling.

Along with enquiries such as this one, major airlines state their willingness towards tLufthansaaking the next step in intercontinental flying services.
