Dubai International reopens northern runway

Dubai International has announced the reopening of their northern runway, setting them in full capacity once again.

All the times which had temporarily been moved to Al Maktoum International, have been reinstated to their normal schedule.

If we were to discuss numbers, the re-enabling of northern runway at Dubai International, translates to a 31% increase in flight numbers. This boost naturally equals more income.

Emotions ran high during the first day, but all operations sailed back to their normal routine.

Dubai International upgrades are part of a strategy spanning to 2020, in an attempt to manage and accommodate up to 103 million passengers. Even if the numbers might stagger you, take into account that the overall investment for the SP 2020 is set at $7.8billion for Dubai Airports.

As a consequence, both runways at Dubai International have been closed, each for an 80 day period.

There are still four airlines engaged to the DWC, as follows: Gulf Air, Wizz Air, Jazeera Airways and Qatar Airways.

“I am pleased that our planning and preparations over the past year not only ensured that the impact on passengers during the 80-day period was minimal but that we were able to resume full operations and accommodate increased traffic at the end of the programme without a hitch,”

“The runway upgrade programme tested the mettle of the over 60,000 people who work at DXB whose dedication and teamwork resulted in the successful delivery of an incredibly demanding programme, led by Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects and Dubai Airports’ operations, while maintaining high traffic volumes and top-flight service levels,”.

“Additionally it allowed tens of thousands of passengers to experience the speed, convenience and efficiency of DWC, Dubai’s second airport.” - chief executive at Dubai Airports, Paul GriffithsDubai International
