Japan's officials plan to use famous “nocturnal mercenaries” to boost country's tourism for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Local governors and mayors wearing ninja costumes announced the launch of a new organization to promote country's ancient mercenaries to overseas visitors.

The nowadays silent assassins are still very well trained, always dressed in black, but are less feared and have a less dangerous purpose: they aim to boost Japan's tourisms around the 2020 Olympic games via ninja related websites, activities and attractions all across the country. Also, nationwide ninja related events will take place on February 22, which is national Ninja Day in Japan.

“We want this to lead to a nation of kinship and a huge cultural boom,” Eikei Suzuki, the governor of Mie, declared at the press conference that unveiled the officials' plan.

Ninjas are granted a prominent cultural role in Japan’s history. The covert agents in feudal Japan were also called shinobis. Contrasting with the samurai style, they were depicted as silent mercenaries with expert stealth skills, linked to espionage, sabotage, infiltration, combat and assassination since the feudal era. From books, comics, movies and computer games, their climbing claws, throwing star-shaped “shurikan” weapons and countless fighting abilities have been immortalized for the public appeal.
