New Direct Flights: Manchester–Mumbai Launched

Airlines & Airports

Manchester Airport has launched a new direct service to Mumbai operated by IndiGo, marking the North of England’s only year-round, non-stop connection to India.

Previously, around 70,000 passengers travelled indirectly from Manchester to Mumbai each year. Now, they’ll benefit from a faster, more convenient route that is expected to boost exports by over £32 million annually.

Whether you’re travelling for business, family, or adventure, here’s what you need to know before flying.

Before You Go: Visas and Entry Requirements

UK travellers need a passport valid for at least six months with two blank pages. A visa is required unless you're an Indian national with an OCI card.

Most tourists opt for an e-Tourist visa (30-day or one- or five-year multiple entry). Apply at least four days before travel on the official Indian government portal. Fees range from $10 to $25, depending on the season.

Vaccinations & Health

Proof of Yellow Fever or Polio vaccination is needed if travelling from countries where these diseases are present. Recommended vaccines include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus. See TravelHealthPro for full guidance.

Travel Insurance

Secure comprehensive travel insurance covering your activities and emergency costs. The UK’s Citizens Advice site offers helpful comparisons.

Currency & Money Matters

Indian Rupees (INR) are a protected currency—you can’t bring them in or out of the UK. Exchange foreign currency upon arrival in India. Declare amounts over $5,000 (cash) or $10,000 (cash + traveller’s cheques).
