American Airlines Opens Nine New Gates at Dallas Fort Worth

Airlines & Airports

American Airlines and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport have opened nine new gates at Terminal C, marking the first major milestone in a multi-billion-dollar plan to fully rebuild and modernize American's largest and busiest hub.

The new Terminal C pier, built over two years using modular construction techniques to minimize operational disruption, delivers four net-new gates alongside five fully rebuilt existing gates. The modules were partially constructed away from the terminal and transported across two closed runways overnight in April 2024 using self-propelled modular transporters.

All nine gates are equipped with dormakaba electronic boarding gates, making American the first US airline to deploy this technology at scale at a major hub. The new pier also features energy-efficient windows, high ceilings, new concessions, seating, and restrooms, offering passengers an early look at the fully reimagined Terminal C that will take shape over the coming years.

Terminal C is American's busiest terminal at DFW, averaging nearly 200 mainline departures per day during the current summer schedule. Once the full reconstruction is complete, it will encompass more than one million square feet and 32 gates. The broader DFW expansion plan also includes a pier-style addition at Terminal A opening later this year with 10 gates, and the debut of Terminal F in 2026 — a brand-new sixth terminal with 31 gates.

"The opening of the new pier provides a preview of what customers can expect from the ongoing transformation at DFW," said Jim Moses, American's Senior Vice President of DFW Operations.

American serves more than 230 nonstop destinations from DFW, with 930 peak daily departures this summer and over 67 million customers handled at the hub in 2025.
