If you love music, you might want to check out Jaime the Breakaway Backpacker at BreakawayBackpacker.com. Along with posting trip updates, every Monday Jaime features the lyrics of a song he loves. Even the name of his site was inspired by music: the song “Break away” by his favorite artist, Kelly Clarkson.
Jaime only began traveling around the world about a month ago, but he has huge aspirations for a “round the world” trip – and some of his plans have already changed! His original itinerary started in August 2011, but after finding a deal, he ended up in Central America in March instead. After a crazy first few weeks, Jaime answered some of our questions.
Where are you today? Where are you off to next?
Today I am in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. Right now I don’t know where I am going next. I know for sure going to spend a week or two more in Costa Rica before heading off too Nicaragua.
You just started traveling around the world – what have you discovered? Did it help to have other bloggers to hang out with for much of the time?
Yes I just started traveling and so far I have discovered that it’s easier than you may think. Yes it’s a lot to get used too but someone is alway around to help you and in the end you are living your dream. I was lucky enough to tag along with Jessica & Dani from Globe Trotter Girls on the last 2wks they had in Central America. It did help me a lot because I was able to see that by doing research you will be okay.
How far ahead do you plan your trips?
Right now I don’t plan anything. I get to a city spend time there and a day or two before I leave I do research for the next location. I just have a sense of direction that I am going in. In this case I’m going north because I have to get to Cancun for my brothers wedding on June 11.
How far ahead did you start your blog, and why?
I started my blog almost 8 months before I left. I did it because I wanted to document all my thoughts, feelings and planning for it. I also wanted to get the hang of blogging well before I hit the road so I would not have be learning stuff on the road. Even though I am continuously learning new things for my blog.
Is it hard juggling your blog with your time seeing the sights?
Right now it hasn’t been that hard because it seems like I do thing during the day but at night find myself with time to do things. I do know that I am a huge PROCRASTINATOR and even if I have time I will wait until the very last minute to write a blog post. I’m just lazy like that…lol!!!
Why do you think people enjoy reading your blog?
Oh wow tough question… I think it’s because I am 100% honest & 100% me. I don’t let anyone or anything influence my writing. I put it out there if people like it great & if not great as well. I also know that I have a sense of humor and it seems like crazy funny things are always happening to me.
