Whether it’s for business or vacation, traveling is no excuse to skip your workout routine. Yes, you may want to sleep in or hit the breakfast buffet instead, but it’s essential to keep your routine. When people go for days without exercising, it can be hard to do the same routine you were doing before. This is why you must fit in a workout while traveling.
Get Up Early
The family is leaving at 8AM to go see the aquarium. Why not get up a bit early to workout? You may not want to get up at 6AM, but doing so every other day while traveling will keep you in shape. After a quick 30 minute workout, you can shower and be ready to head out for the day.
Take Advantage of Hotel Gyms
Many hotels offer gyms. While there may not be a huge selection of equipment, chances are there is enough to get a good workout. Stretch for 5 minutes before hitting the treadmill for 15 minutes and then the weight bench for 15 more. If you get up early, chances are you’ll beat the rush and still have the entire day to enjoy with your family.
Go for a Swim
Almost every hotel has a pool. Not only are pools great places for kids to splash around, but they also offer a great workout. Spend the afternoon taking a 30 minute swim. This does not mean floating around in the pool. You need to actually put effort into the workout so that you get your heart rate up. Afterward, you can relax by floating around on your favorite inflatable lounge chair, taking in the sun.
Bring Along Portable Equipment
While you may not be able to bring large equipment on your journey, you may still be able to bring small dumbbells, a jump rope and elastic workout bands. You may even want to bring along exercise DVDs that don’t require equipment.
Take in the Sites – On Foot
Why tour a city on bus when you could take in a walking tour? Why drive to an arcade when you could walk the kids to the beach boardwalk? Why ride shuttles through amusement park parking lots when you can walk? As you can see there is plenty of walking to be done while traveling. Oh, and don’t take the elevator. Choose the stairs instead.
Traveling is no excuse to skip your workout routine. Whether you spend a few minutes working out in your hotel room or visit the hotel’s gym, there are ways to fit in a workout while traveling.
