This may seem like a stupid title, however, there is more to be considered when weighing up you accommodation options for your holiday or backpacking trip. Yes, a hotel will have amazing facilities, staff to clean your clothes, room services and working air-conditioning. And yes, if you are in a phase of your life when you need comfort they will always win hands down. However, let’s look at 5 reasons Hostels are actually better.
1 – Cheaper
Yeah this is an obvious one, but some Hotels and Hostels are in the same price bracket. Obviously on the whole a hostel will cost you less, depending the kind of holiday you want to go, that can only be a good thing. I am basically saying that even the finest Paris Hotels have their floors.
2 – Better atmosphere
This is a big plus-point. Yes, a hotel is great if you’re with a partner or big group, but it’s no good really for meeting people. Hostels often have, food tasting, cooking classes, parties and many other activities that get you involved with the other guests. They also tend to be a lot smaller than Hotels, which makes it far easier to meet people.
3 – Central Location
One of the best things about Hostels is often the location, often sitting on top of a dingy night club near the town centre, however if you can put up with the noise (or simply go into town) you can often find a reasonably priced Hostel in the City-centre for a good price, take the English Capital for example, you will spend over £100 a night for central London Hotels.
4 – Shared rooms
Oh yeah, now, if you are sharing a bunk bed with a young couple (As I did) this may not be the best, but again it is a great place to meet people on your holiday, and you never know, your room mate could turn out to be a hot Swedish girl called Helga – #justsaying.
5 – Relaxed attitude
If anything, the atmosphere in most hostels has to be the main plus-point. Hotels are so serious and ‘proper’, if you want to wind down it is nice to have more of a relaxed atmosphere to your stay. Plus, they are usually more tolerant of 20 party stag do’s for example. There is a certain way to act in a Hotel, and neither of the Berlin Hotels we stayed at for my friend’s stag do appreciated the site of an inflatable sheep and patriotic songs at 3 O’clock in the morning.
