Maliba Mountain Lodge makes top travel picks for 2010
Lesotho’s first five-star lodge, Maliba Mountain Lodge, has been voted as one of Tatler magazine’s top travel picks for 2010, making it onto the ‘101 best hotels in the world’ list. Chosen by Tatler’s travel editor, Melinda Stevens, the 101 best hotels offer a complete respite from everyday living; they all offer something desirable and glorious, and Maliba Lodge is no exception.
Described by the Tatler travel guide as “beautiful and smart” Maliba offers the traveller first world creature comforts against the humble backdrop of the Royal Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. Opened in 2008, Maliba became Lesotho’s first five-star product and has subsequently launched a sister product, Maliba River Lodges, which offers guests a self-catering Lesotho experience. Lesotho’s Honourable Minister of Tourism, Lebohang Ntsinyi, has commended Maliba’s achievement and expressed her positivity that the award will really entrench Lesotho on the travel map. Maliba’s Operations Director Nick King is confident that the award will assist in the marketing of Maliba Lodge, and in promoting destination awareness about Lesotho.
A small country of approximately 30 000 km², Lesotho is entirely surrounded by South Africa. Lesotho is the only place in southern Africa where visitors can ski and enjoy a ‘white’ Christmas in July. Guests can experience local village culture and the beauty of the Lesotho landscape on foot or atop a sure-footed Basotho pony.
