Peninsula All-Suite Hotel gets Gold Status

The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel in Sea Point, Cape Town, has achieved Gold Status in its latest Heritage Grading, reflecting the property’s commitment to sound environmental management policies.

“At the Peninsula we continue to strive for a better global environment linked to its obvious financial benefits through savings and marketing opportunities,” says the Peninsula’s GM Chris Godenir.

“Going green is not only a strategic positioning for the hotel but something which the travel & hotel industry will be forced to comply with in the long run,” he says.

Along with improving levels of recycling (bio-fuel is generated from cooking oil while all pre-prep foodstuff is composted), the Peninsula has also fitted all rooms with low flow showers and low energy lighting while all air conditioning is heat pump driven (a major saving on electricity consumption).

The hotel is also renowned (recognised by FEDHASA as a finalist in 2008 & 2009 Imvelo Awards) for its business model which empowers employees while also encouraging staff to participate in community initiatives such as beach clean-ups.

Created by the Heritage Environmental Management Company, the Heritage Environmental Rating Programme represents a range of environmental rating and management options for most business types, designed to reduce and limit the impact of their operations on the environment.

Each rating & management option is based on the application of simple and effective environmentally-friendly and responsible operating standards across aspects of various business operations.

The iconic five star Peninsula is a landmark hotel on the Platinum Mile along Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard and is owned & managed by Three Cities Hotel Group.
