Mossel Bay Tourism attends International Tourism Trade Fair of Latin America

Mossel Bay Tourism will join the South Africa’s Argentinean Embassy in exhibiting at this year’s FIT Latin America 2009 (Feria Internacional de Turismo de America Latina – International Tourism Trade Fair of Latin America) which will take from the 14th to the 17th of November at La Rural, Predio Ferial de Buenos Aires.

“I understand that this is the largest tourism show in South America,” said Mossel Bay Tourism’s Marcia Holm, who will represent the company in Buenos Aires.

“Last year – the thirteenth year of its existence – it attracted 1,788 exhibitors and 80,324 visitors, of which 31,972 were from the trade, and we’re hoping that this year will be even better.

“Appearing at FIT is an important part of Mossel Bay’s South-South Strategy, which seeks to build bridges between our town and our region and the Latin American countries in the fields of tourism, commerce, social welfare (including sport) and science and research,” she said.

Ms. Holm believes that Mossel Bay is attractive to the South American Market for many reasons – not least of which is the fact that the Paraguayan national football team has elected to base itself in the town for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

“We’ve launched our ‘We Speak Spanish’ campaign, and we’ve set up a language faculty with the University of Buenos Aires to teach the language to between 300 and 400 locals before the World Cup starts next year,” she said.

“That way, our visitors will have the best experience of all the attractions, beaches, nature reserves, wildlife and culture that Mossel Bay has to offer.

Mossel Bay Tourism will be appearing in the South African Embassy stand – stand 620 in the International Hall – together with various tourism and parks boards, South African Airways and a number of inbound tour operators.
