Knysna will cope with the seasonal influx – Knysna Tourism Board
20 Nov
Knysna is a hive of activities as authorities, accommodation establishments and businesses are getting themselves ready for the peak season ahead.
The area is in the grip of one of the worst droughts in 150 years, but Chairman of the Knysna Tourism Board, Mike Mills said that the area will be able to cope with the seasonal influx. “The Knysna Municipality has got various measures in place and are also working on other alternative measures, so visitors coming to the area will not have to worry about water supply. However, water restrictions are in place, and we will ask our visitors to act water wise while they are here.”
He said that it seems bookings are coming in, but on shorter notice than last year. “It seems visitors are not booking as far in advance as per previous years. Establishments are filling up, but just at a slower pace.”
Nicole Tumner, General Manager of The Graywood Hotel, said that their forecasting is looking good. “We have some international tour groups and a good selection of locals and are already full from the 23rd of December to the fifth of January, and we are still receiving queries.”
Mills said that the office is also receiving a constant flow of enquiries. “Despite the recession, we expect it to be a good season. Knysna will also be hosting some exciting events this year – the line-up of the Knysna Rocks Music Festival includes some of the top South African bands like Prime Circle and Just Jinger. The Beach Festival at Buffalo Bay also promises some sport excitement for those wishing to do some work during their annual holidays!”
