Arabella Starwood Hotels & Resorts trains staff ahead of 2010 Soccer World Cup

With the 2010 Soccer World Cup around the corner, and a resultant influx of tourists imminent, Arabella Starwood Hotels & Resorts, South Africa is empowering hotel staff through an internationally accredited, specialised hotel training programme.

The Arabella Supervisory Development Programme is offered by the Arabella Centre of Excellence, the training division of Arabella Starwood Hotels & Resorts, South Africa. The aim of the programme is to attain a high standard of professionalism and service excellence within the hospitality industry, to promote South Africa as a first world tourism destination, ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup and beyond. The Arabella Centre of Excellence provides educational initiatives in the hospitality industry for employees, youth and the previously disadvantaged.

The Arabella Supervisory Development Programme was developed in collaboration with Jon Foster-Pedley, senior lecturer and co-developer of the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business Executive MBA Programme, and is endorsed by the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality.

A total of 39 employees from The Westin Grand Cape Town and 13 from the Arabella Western Cape Hotel and Spa have successfully completed the 2009 Arabella Supervisory Development Programme. The fifty-two certificates awarded this year increase the total number of Arabella Supervisory Development Programme graduates since 2006 to one hundred and thirty nine.

Arabella Starwood Hotels & Resorts, South Africa, together with the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality honoured this year’s 52 graduates at a prestigious ceremony and gala dinner held last week at The Westin Grand Cape Town.

The three month course, based on the learning methodology of the Executive MBA Programme covers subjects such as business acumen, self management, human resources, finances, food and beverage operations, rooms operations and well being.
