Where are the 2010 soccer world cup fans, private property owners?
Daily I get to receive enquires as a result of post titled “2010 Accommodation registration with MATCH now open” from private property owners seeking to list their homes for the soccer event. This blog has a fairly wide readership across the world, however I’m yet to receive lodging enquires from visiting soccer fans.
This leaves me with endless questions, to the sudden interest from private property owners…if there are no booking enquires about 2010 from international soccer fans, what makes them think there is a demand for their properties?
Even worse some of these private properties are located in areas not hosting any soccer matches, which make them not attractive to any prospective soccer fan.

Aside from assuming that the soccer world cup will bring in loads of soccer fans seeking shelter in private homes, what prove has been forthcoming to justify the sudden interest?
It’s easy to suddenly create a portal to list all these private properties since there is demand for such, however on the other hand, what guarantees are there that these properties will indeed secure stranded soccer fans willing to lodge at their homes?
I contacted Match Hospitality, the FIFA accredited hospitality agency which confirmed that they don’t handle any listings for private property.
My Plea
Building up to the soccer world cup, the mushrooming of booking portals without a track record focused on listing private properties is making a grand entrance. Therefore home owners have to thoroughly investigate any offers for listing their properties and ensure that they’re guaranteed a return on investment. Don’t be ripped-off with a false promise and lose money in the process.

Hi Muzi
Perhaps we should call the World Cup Great expectations as far as private property owners and even guest huses are concerned. Undoubtedly the event will be great for our contry and will bring many economic benefits.
Those who are hoping to make a one time killing are bound to be dissapointed unless perhaps live right next to a stadium, as there is ample accommodation available for our visitors. The expected numbers for Cape Town , for example, are significantly less than our regular annual Christmas season visitors.
I suppose people are just simply looking to take advantage of an event that doesn't come around in South Africa so often. With an expected number of tourists to balloon to figures that may give local authorities logistical and planning headaches, an extra number of rooms available for tourists would very much be a welcome addition.
