Mossel Bay company takes honours at World Design Award

30 Oct

MM Interiors – which belongs to Mossel Bay’s Miranda Meyer and has offices in Mossel Bay, Cape Town, and Lagos – has won international acclaim for its work on the headquarters of one of Lagos’ largest law firms – Aluko & Oyebode – and on the Harrow Park Golf Club in the Nigerian capital of Abuja.

MM Interiors was the highest scoring interior design company for the Africa region at the International Commercial Property Awards 2009, which took place in London during October.

“We received the highest score for both of our entries from Nigeria – which secured us the 1st and 2nd places in the regional and national awards,” said Ms. Meyer.

“Our design for the offices of Aluko & Oyebode received a five-star rating, and Harrow Park got four stars.

“This means that we are now an international nominee for the World’s Best Interior Design Award, which will be announced in San Diego on the 12th of November.”

MM Interiors has won three previous World’s Best Interior Design Awards – most notably in 2006 for Mossel Bay’s Nautica Apartments – and has completed a total of 18 projects in Nigeria.

The company has also completed commissions in Angola, Mozambique, São Tomé, and South Africa, but Ms. Meyer said that she is particularly fond of working in Nigeria

“As an interior designer you have to have vision to be successful, and in my vision I see a new Nigeria rising through the dirt and chaos.

“I think if I get to choose between a project in Dubai or Lagos, Lagos will win my vote without thinking twice about the offer.”

MM Interiors provides corporate and domestic interior design services, space planning, shop fitting, conference and training room furniture, custom designed office furniture, demountable partitioning, carpeting and curtaining, framed graphics, chairs and soft furniture to residential, corporate and mixed-use developments such as hotels, apartments and offices.

“We offer our clients the best products at the best prices drawn from an international suppliers list built up through extensive travels and meetings to find that special product, supplied by companies with similar goals to ours: putting the client first,” said Ms. Meyer.

Mossel Bay Tourism’s Marcia Holm congratulated Ms. Meyer on behalf of the company’s Proud Mossel Bay Campaign.

“Proud Mossel Bay seeks to build our community by recognising locals who raise the bar through excellence and achievement in their chosen fields,” she said. “Ms. Meyer and MM Interiors have certainly done this with these awards – and we wish them every success in San Diego.”

“I want to thank all my clients, friends and family for all the support they give me during the year and for the fact that you believe in me and motivate me when I feel down and tired,” said Ms. Meyer.

“I have been travelling most of 2009 and must say I will enjoy the December holiday like never before and enjoy seeing everybody again and spending some quality time with all of you.”

Quality time which, of course, she’ll spend at home in Mossel Bay.
