Zambezi Airlines contracts Travelport GDS
Zambian carrier, Zambezi Airlines, is pushing ahead with expansion plans by signing a content deal with Travelport GDS, one of the world’s leading global distribution system (GDS) providers, operating both the Galileo and Worldspan platforms. Under the new agreement, Zambezi’s published fares and inventory will be made available to all Travelport GDS-connected users worldwide. By making its inventory available to Galileo and Worldspan users, Zambezi Airlines is reaching out to a global audience for the first time.
The airline, which serves both business and leisure destinations, currently operates two Boeing 737-500 aircraft with 12 Premier Business Class and 99 Economy Class seats. It recently expanded its route network to include two daily flights to and from Johannesburg and three weekly flights between Johannesburg and Ndola in Zambia’s Copperbelt. It also operates same-plane connections between Johannesburg and Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania, via Lusaka.
Zambezi Airlines’ Executive Director, Jomo Matululu, explained: “Although Zambezi Airlines has enjoyed significant early success since we started operating last year, we believe this agreement with Travelport is essential to ensure our future growth. Travelport’s Galileo platform is very well established as the preferred booking channel for both leisure and business travel agents in our major markets.”
Khalid Alkhalidi, Director Supplier Services, Middle East and Africa, for Travelport GDS added: “The management team at Zambezi Airlines has some ambitious plans for the future and everyone at Travelport GDS is excited to be involved at such a crucial time. We look forward to working closely with them to achieve these growth plans.”
