Soweto Hotel showcases township flavour at Taste of Joburg
Jazz Maniac’s Restaurant at The Soweto Hotel on Freedom Square is one of 16 top restaurants in Johannesburg participating in this year’s Taste of Joburg. This five day celebration of fine food and drink, in its third year, will be held at Montecasino, Fourways from 30 September to 4 October 2009.
“Being invited to participate alongside established restaurants has been an absolute honour,” says Lindiwe Sangweni – Siddo, managing director of The Soweto Hotel on Freedom Square. “This is our first time at the show and we are quite excited”.
Executive chef, Jacob Masilo and chef de partie, Junior Molewa will bring some kasi flavour to the festival by serving up some of the restaurant’s signature dishes. “The idea is to give guests a sample taste of what is on offer at the restaurant, so we will be serving favourites such as chisa nyama, bunny chow and bread and butter pudding,” continues Sangweni – Siddo. “These dishes are typical fare we all grew up on. Our recipes are inspired by our mamas, gogos and aunties and modified by Jacob and his team – comfort food really!”.
