City Lodge Hotels add 293 rooms in Port Elizabeth
The City Lodge Hotels group is on track towards adding two more hotels and 293 rooms to its accommodation offering in the ‘Friendly City” with work now underway on the 203-room Town Lodge Port Elizabeth and the 90-room Road Lodge Port Elizabeth Airport.
The two hotels, both members of the JSE-listed City Lodge Hotels group, will cost around R167 million to develop and increases the group’s number of hotels in the city to five and its room numbers to 623. The group’s existing hotels are Courtyard Port Elizabeth, City Lodge Port Elizabeth and Road Lodge Port Elizabeth, all situated on the beachfront in Summerstrand.
Town Lodge Port Elizabeth (R133 million), which is being constructed adjacent to City Lodge Port Elizabeth, is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2010. It will have three levels of basement parking and comprise seven storeys. Road Lodge Port Elizabeth Airport (R34 million) is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2010.
“We are excited about having all four of our brands in close proximity to each other in Summerstrand, giving the business and leisure traveller a choice of hotel to suit their travel budget, and about adding an airport hotel to the city’s accommodation offering,” says Clifford Ross, City Lodge Hotels’ chief executive.
The City Lodge Hotels group currently has 44 hotels around South Africa, but expects to have 53 hotels offering 6,629 rooms by the end of 2010. Developments currently underway include City Lodge O R Tambo Airport (303 rooms), City Lodge Fourways (211 rooms), City Lodge Lynnwood (205 rooms) and City Lodge Hatfield (187 rooms). Work is also expected to begin soon on Road Lodge Southgate (118 rooms) and Road Lodge Bloemfontein Airport (66 rooms).
The group opened its 44th hotel earlier this month – the 125-room Road Lodge Umhlanga Ridge at a cost of around R49 million.
