Soweto Food Festival to host South African Chefs Association
Chefs around South Africa are gearing up to demonstrate their cooking flair at the first Soweto Food Festival later this year. The South African Chefs Association (SACA) will be manning the interactive chef’s kitchen preparing dishes to tantalize taste buds and offer palates “tastes from the township and around the world”.
Graham Donet, General Manager of SACA says, “The South African Chefs Association is extremely proud to be a strategic partner of the Soweto Food Festival.”
SACA plans to create and run a chefs village where they will put emphasis on Soweto’s fabulous cuisine. Top Soweto chefs, such as Kabelo Segone from the South African Chefs Association Board, will be demonstrating delicious township and worldwide cuisine.
Chefs will also showcase interesting techniques such as knife skills. “Our chef village will be a dynamic hub of activity, with seating for festival goers to put their feet up and watch the action,” adds Graham.
The Soweto Food Festival takes place from 1 – 4 October at the Hyundai Stadium in Pimville and will play a dual role of showcasing the very best of eKasi food (Township food) and international cuisine side by side. Tickets cost R35 for adults and R10 for children and pensioners and are available at the gate.
