SA Tourism shortlisted for “Tourist Board of the Year” award
South African Tourism, whose UK headquarters are in London, has been nominated for one of the travel industry’s most prestigious awards.
South African Tourism has been shortlisted for the Tourist Board of the Year category in the TTG Travel Awards 2009, run by the industry’s leading trade newspaper, Travel Trade Gazette.
Lucy Huxley, editor of TTG, said: “We have had a record number of entries this year, demonstrating the resilience of the travel industry during the economic downturn, so any firm which is shortlisted can feel very proud. Entrants are rated by the travel agents they work with, before being judged by panels of industry experts. Winners truly deserve to be named the best in our industry.”
Lebo Mokhesi, Country Manager for South African Tourism in the UK said: “These awards are regarded as a universal benchmark of quality within the travel industry. Being short-listed is a tremendous achievement and South African Tourism is immensely proud of its work this year.”
“In 2008, we launched the Ubuntu Awards, a programme designed to encourage our travel partners to create innovative marketing initiatives for South Africa and we feel that this programme, together with our consumer facing activities, have made a real impact in this market.”
Judges for the awards include managing directors and chief executives of some of the biggest names in the travel industry, including Abta, Thomson and Virgin Holidays, in addition to leading figures from the worlds of commerce and retail.
This year’s winners will be announced at a spectacular ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Tuesday 22 September 2009.
