Protea Hotels opens a 213 bedroom 4-star hotel at OR Tambo

As South Africa continues as the business hub in Africa, Protea Hotels gives the business traveller another cutting edge offering. Opening in November 2009, Protea Hotel OR Tambo, the new 213 bedroom 4-star hotel at OR Tambo International Airport, will benefit time-conscious local and international business travellers who not only rely on efficiency to conduct their day-to-day business, but are looking for a “home away from home” experience as a part of their travel needs.

The buzzing OR Tambo International Airport, South Africa’s largest airport, is located near Johannesburg and serves as the primary airport for domestic and international travellers. The convenient location, hotel facilities and services that are tailored around the domestic and international business traveller needs are the biggest selling points for Protea Hotel OR Tambo which will be the hub for national and international company meetings. The hotel offers 2 multi-use conferencing rooms for up to 120 people and a selection of executive boardrooms and small meeting rooms catering for 12- 20 delegates. The hotel is situated in Kempton Park, within the Comair office park, a 10-minute drive from the airport terminal buildings.  This convenient location will attract national and international travellers from both the corporate and leisure market. The hotel will also cater for the air crew market.

“We like to put thought into all of our new developments and understand that business people spend 5-times more time in their hotel rooms than leisure travellers do,” says Danny Bryer, Group Marketing and Revenue Director at Protea Hotels, “We have catered for all their business needs whilst at the same time looked at innovative ways to create a unique experience.”

Protea Hotel OR Tambo is unlike the usual stock standard airport hotel offering – it follows true to Protea Hotel’s style of offering guests uniquely different hotels; as this product incorporates an industrial aviation theme throughout.  Pieces from airport hangers and old air planes adorn the walls in what will become a much talked about feature of this unique hotel.  Ample parking has been provided to cater for travellers, conference delegates and business associates or friends visiting guests.  The hotel also offers its own restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served.  After a hard day in meetings, guests can relax on the sun loungers around the pool, or indulge in a glass of wine and a light snack in the comfortable bar lounge and informal deli. For those who are a little more active there is a fitness centre offering state of the art Technogym equipment.

Protea Hotel OR Tambo is part of Protea Hotel’s strategic ongoing development for 2010 and beyond.
