Thanda appoints new Hospitality and Lodge Manager

Thanda recently welcomed a new Hospitality and Lodge Manager to the team. Sue Davis has taken up the position and is very positive and enthusiastic about Thanda. Sue has an extensive career in the hospitality industry and after relocating from the UK she took up a position at a hotel in Durban  and quickly moved into a management position.  Sue also launched and  ran a very successful restaurant in Durban. We are delighted that Sue has now joined the Thanda team.  We extend a warm Thanda welcome to Sue and we wish her all the very best for the months to come.

The wellness centre has welcomed two new spa therapists:  Zomusa Mafu and Thubelihle Mtshali. They are qualified therapists and are ready to give guests the ultimate pampering experience.

On the wildlife front the cheetah cub is doing well and has been seen on a few game drives lazing around with its mother. Last week some guests witnessed two cheetahs mating. The wild dog pups are growing daily and can be heard from the lodge. They are denning on the hill near the villas but are very shy and have not yet been seen. The adults and lactating mother have been seen hunting.

The Annual Zulu Reed Dance Festival will be held on 12 September in KwaZulu-Natal. Once a year, in the heart of South Africa’s Kingdom of the Zulu, thousands of beautiful young Zulu women make the long journey to King Goodwill Zwelethini’s royal residence at KwaNyokeni Palace. These young women will take part in a colourful cultural festival called the Royal Reed Dance festival – or Umkhosi woMhlanga in Zulu. The Reed Dance festival offers visitors to South Africa the unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty and majesty of the Kingdom of the Zulus, combined with the vibrant spectacle of Zulu cultural life. Thanda proudly supports the King and the traditional ceremonies of Zulu culture. The King uses the reed dance to address his subjects and highlight wide-ranging issues, most recently safe sexual practices and awareness of HIV/Aids.

As the call goes out for entries for the 2009 Imvelo Awards, Thanda is promoting responsible tourism by sponsoring R25 000 for a mentorship programme towards SMMEs at the 2009 Imvelo Awards. The program will help educate these businesses of the impact that their socially responsible work has achieved in the community and how they can further develop the impact of their programs. Thanda, awarded the Chairman’s Award in 2007, is proud to spearhead such an initiative and to associate itself with an award that aids in developing socially responsible organisations focused on responsible tourism for South Africa.
