SA Tourism Japan empowers local travel trade to sell SA

South African Tourism Japan, in collaboration with the Japanese Association of Travel Agents (JATA) is hosting a “South African Sales Month” in all member travel agencies from 9th July 2009.

The month-long activation aims to send more Japanese travelers to South Africa by encouraging and equipping Japanese trade partners to sell South Africa. Given the popularity of flowers in Japan, South African Sales Month will use the Namaqualand flower season in September and the Jacaranda season in October to showcase the scenic beauty of South Africa in spring.

The month long campaign will provide South African Tourism’s Japanese trade partners with the exciting tools developed during its successful “Surprise Yourself” photo competition (www.south-africa.jp ). In addition, point of presence (POP’s), posters and flyers will be displayed in partner travel agents as well as at consumer seminars and events across the country.

Both types of POP’s, one a hanging mobile disc the other a shelf dangler, use spectacular Namaqualand and Blyde River Canyon images incorporating soccer ball designs profiling South Africa as the 2010 World Cup hosts. Flyers, promoting the photo competition as well as a story telling competition for those dreaming of visiting South Africa will also be made available in all partner travel agencies in Japan. The stories best describing why contestants want to visit South Africa will win prizes. Winning stories will also feature on South African Tourism’s Japanese website. The photo competition runs until the end of November and the story competition runs until 31 March 2010.

Furthermore, June this year saw South African Tourism in Japan receive over 5,000 registrations for a special quiz campaign between 7th June and 6th July 2009.

Moreover, 7th of July 2009 saw South African Tourism launch a new webpage featuring a leading Japanese journalist’s experience of the 2009 Confederations Cup. His experiences provide Japanese readers with first hand insights into the ease of travel in South Africa while providing a taste of 2010 World Cup excitement.

The new web page can be viewed at http://south-africa.jp/special/

In keeping with the 2010 World Cup theme South African Tourism congratulates Japan’s national soccer team on successfully qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. South Africa also looks forward to welcoming Japan’s stars to the garden route town of George where the Japanese national team is planning to base their training camp in 2010. As such the new web page profiles the Garden route along with the rest of South Africa to Japanese audiences.

South African Tourism Japan’s country manager, Bradley Brouwer, thanked the JATA Working Group members for their cooperation and overwhelming support of the South Africa Sales Month campaign.

Brouwer added that “on-going infrastructure and accommodation upgrades in the run-up to 2010 are adding ever more variety and choice to South African’s legendary diversity. Even after the South African Sales Month, South African Tourism Japan will continue to market the destination in Japan by empowering Japanese trade to successfully market the destination through our upgraded website and innovative and effective trade and consumer seminars.”
