Relais & Chateaux workshop attracts 350 tour operators
The Relais & Châteaux Association recently held its annual educational workshops in Johannesburg and Durban where more than 350 high profile tour operators attended to meet the representatives of the 27 properties within the Southern, East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands delegation and to learn about new developments at the properties and within the Association. Relais & Châteaux hold three annual workshops countrywide – Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Each of the 27 properties has a limited time slot to present the highlights and uniqueness of their establishment in an educating format to around four industry members at a time.
On the first evening in Johannesburg the proceedings began with a private cocktail party for just media and vip’s in conjunction with the Relais & Châteaux partners, Waterford Wines and Moët et Chandon. The following day two workshops were created for tour operators and again attendance had increased from 2008.
States General Manager Annie-Claude Bergonzoli, “Even in a time when the public and industry are being careful with their budgets, the interest from the industry was truly overwhelming. According to their clients not only internationals but local South Africans especially wanted to learn about the properties and the unique Route du Bonheur’s (Route of Happiness) we offer. There could well be a new trend that we as South Africans will start to travel more extensively locally.”
