Emirates’ class of its own heads to Durban

The award winning international carrier, Emirates Airline, will from 1 October 2009 bring its renowned Business Class offering, direct to KwaZulu-Natal residents. The launch of the daily Dubai-Durban frequency will see Emirates become the only international carrier to fly into Durban, connecting the KwaZulu Natal region to the airline’s extensive route network across 6 continents.

Luxury travel is all about indulgence and Emirates endeavours to ensure that every moment can be enjoyed and relished. From the complimentary chauffeur-drive, to the priority check-in, to the superior onboard service offering, every whim is catered for with compliments of Emirates. The many awards for service and product offerings that Emirates has received are proof of the carrier’s dedication to superior experience. Recent awards include; Best Business Class in the 2008 Business Traveller Middle East Awards, Best Airline Inflight Entertainment Award in the Skytrax IFE award 2009 and Outstanding Food Service by a Carrier Middle East 2008 in the Pax International Magazine Readership Awards 2008.

“Airlines are not usually known for exceptional inflight catering, but at Emirates this is something we are especially proud of. Pax International Magazine Readership Awards have long been the benchmark for excellence within the travel catering industry and we are pleased that the industry and our customers have recognized our efforts to provide the best possible in-flight catering.”  Says Fouad Caunhye, Emirates Regional Manager Southern Africa

Attention to detail sets Emirates apart ensuring that passengers are satisfied on every level. The finest ingredients are used to produce menus worthy of renowned restaurants and will include items such as; grilled tuna steaks topped with aromatic herbs and Praline au Chocolat.  Taste buds are tantalised from the first sip of champagne onboard and continue to be satisfied with a selection of gastronomic experiences, prepared by global chefs.  In addition passengers are also able to enjoy fine wines from around the world, including South Africa, with a selection of imported chocolates and espresso.

This will put the cat amongst the pigeons. What will the Low costs do? Their primary feeder was for international flights from DUR to JHB. This is good news for DUR and importantly the aircraft can turn around in a short space time unlike JHB where plans wait around all day to depart (due to the altitude) costing the airlines money.

I think more airlines will fly to the new DUR airport and leave JHB.
