Well done South Africa. Welcome 2010!
South African Tourism congratulates Organising Committee, citizens and fans at large for a remarkable show.
The resounding success of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup has shown the world that South Africa is ready to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
South African Tourism has congratulated the nation on an outstanding world class 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup that saw Bafana Bafana do itself and the country proud, the tourism industry more than rise to the challenge and the nation get behind its team in a soccer contest that was riveting until the last whistle.
The curtain has come down on two weeks of play that saw eight teams battle it out for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup title. Media and fans alike descended from all over the world to witness the first ever FIFA Confederations Cup to be played on our soil and they were not disappointed.
The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup ended last night with a magnificent play-off between Brazil and the US. The Brazilians took victory in a stunning match held to a capacity packed Ellis Park Stadium that saw them win 3-2.
“South African Tourism would like to congratulate Brazil on their superb performance last night that saw them clinch the hotly contested 2009 FIFA Confederation Cup”, says Didi Moyle, acting CEO of South African Tourism.
Moyle further acknowledged the efforts of all those involved in hosting the successful tournament including South Africans and the Local Organising Committee.
“Well done South Africa! As a country, we have passed the test of hosting the second largest football competition in the world. We have shown the world our country and we have displayed a matchless spirit and enthusiasm. More importantly, we are now able to confidently state that we are ready to host the best World Cup in the history of FIFA,” Moyle said.
Moyle believes that the Organising Committee has done a sterling job:
“The Organising Committee had to contend with criticism, teething problems and some mishaps. These can be expected when staging any event – big or small – but everything comes together in the end. Mr Jordaan and his team did exceptionally well,” said Moyle.
“For two weeks the eyes of the international world were on South Africa. They witnessed not only a great display of football but also the beauty of the country, the superb infrastructure, captivating landscape and the spirit and energy of the people. We cannot underplay the importance of that. We showed the world in two weeks what South Africa is about and capable of. Bring on 2010!” concluded Moyle.
