SA Tourism hosts successful Southern Africa Trade Workshops 2009

South African Tourism Japan held “Southern Africa Trade Workshops 2009″ in Osaka and Tokyo on 11, 12 June 2009, exactly one year ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Workshop had been attended by South African Tourism Head Office – Mr. Johan van der Walt, Chief Financial Officer and Ms. Evelyn Mahlaba, Asia and Australasia Regional Director; a total of 29 exhibitors from suppliers, operators, tourism organizations, airlines and FIFA partners joined the event. This year’s workshop welcomed the highest record number of attendees in two days, with an approximate number of 400 guests from Japanese travel agents and media.

The objective for the workshop was to improve the perception of South Africa as the 2010 hosts, as well as an attractive travel destination, and to increase the number of Japanese visitors to South Africa. During the seminar that was held before the Workshop, SAT Japan addressed various marketing initiatives leading towards 2010 such as www.south-africa.jp , photo competition, sales tools, Diski campaign, the Trade Extranet and Fundi training programme. Sony Marketing introduced their newly launched website called Life-X http://life-x.jp/football/ which reports on the Confederations Cup in real-time between 11 June 09  and 29 June 09.

Mr. Bradley Brouwer, the Country Manager of South African Tourism Japan, said “Not only is South Africa hosting the Confederations Cup this year from 14 June 09, South Africa hosted many other major international big events like the IPL Tournament and Miss World, and I am fully confident that we will successfully host the 2010 FIFA World Cup next year. With great news that the Japan National Soccer Team qualified and public attention is growing fast, now is the time for the Japanese trade partners to sell South Africa and I am confident that these workshops will enhance your business”.
