Eastern Cape Tourism answers 10 PR industry questions
Following in the footsteps of Nicole Moody from Cape Town Tourism is Veliswa Mhlapo responsible for PR/ communications at the Eastern Cape Tourism Board, she takes time to participate on the weekly series, which is meant to introduce travelwires.com readers to communication practitioners at each provincial tourism body. Let me also remind the rest of the provincial tourism authorities to reply back to my questions by end of business today, before I get into the business of naming and shaming.
1) What is your organization’s Facebook, MySpace and YouTube page?
ECTB is currently in the process of installing a Destination Management System that will include communication through social networks.
2) How important is the media to your daily duties?
Media is an essential part of my departments core function.
3) Are you affiliated to any PR professional body?
No.
4) Say Travelwires.com introduces a virtual press office, would your organization use such a facility?
It depends on the value that the service would offer.
5) Why are PR practitioners referred to as spin doctors?
Because we can spin any story and make it look positive?
6) What involvement do you have with your organization’s website?
Our website is currently being revamped (as part of DMS) and as soon as this process is complete I will take care of the website content.
7) What do you know about www.wiwih.com and www.travelblogexchange.com?
Travelblog exchange is a blog and wiwih is a social networking tool.
Do you use www.prweb.com or www.mediaweb.co.za?
Yes.
9) Skype or twitter for you and why?
Skype. I haven’t gotten around to registering on twitter.
