Dutch soccer team picks Hilton hotel for 2010
The Netherlands National Team has chosen the Hilton Sandton as the official Dutch base-camp hotel for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Dutch team were the first European side to qualify for the tournament following a 2-1 victory over Iceland on Saturday 6th June.
“We are honoured to have been chosen by the Netherlands National Team for their stay in South Africa next year,” says Axel Hauser, general manager of the Hilton Sandton. “The 2010 FIFA World Cup is a chance for South Africa to shine and it is vital that both the Hilton Durban and the Hilton Sandton support this process by providing a home-away-from-home for players, teams, support staff, sponsors and fans.”
Set against the backdrop of the Sandton Central Business District, the Hilton is conveniently located in the largest and most thriving urban development in Johannesburg. The hotel is also located near major access roads and motorways which enable easy transfer to key training grounds and tournament venues.
“First of all I am delighted that we reached our first goal: qualification for the World Cup. Our participation here in South Africa is very important for our team and our country. Being among the world’s greatest teams, we will do our utmost to go for the ultimate: gold,” says Netherlands Head Coach, Bert van Marwijk.
“Being far from home for a longer period, a good hotel, a comfortable place with friendly and football mad people, which feels like home, is one of the keys to success. From the very first moment I stepped into the Hilton Sandton, I was at ease. I am looking forward to come back next year.”

The 2010 World Cup could definitely go to the Netherlands this year. They look strong and Marwijk has the experience to take them all the way.
Oops, I also meant to add the fact that the Dutch have always played well in South Africa, which is just one reason why I think they could go all the way.
