Come run in a new Zimbabwe! Vic Falls marathon returns
GotoVictoriaFalls.com is pleased to announce Victoria Falls‘ high profile international marathon 21 – 24 August 2009, which sees the town of Victoria Falls coming alive with runners and supporters alike. Billed as one of the most thrilling races on the continent the third official Victoria Falls Marathon will be organised by Safari Par Excellence, Wild Horizons, and Wild Frontiers (Pty) Ltd in conjunction with the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe.
“Where else in the world do you have elephants at the water-points, and game on the race route, and the post-race party on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River?” said promoter John Addison of Wild Frontiers. “And of course the options of many post-race activities in the Adventure Capital of the world!”
The route is fast and relatively flat and is supported by regular water points and cooling down sections, all ably managed by the sponsors. The route crosses over the Vic Falls Bridge, briefly into Zambia offering the social runner some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa.
Victoria Falls has long been known as the adventure centre of Africa, and for good reason. There is a wealth of activities available! Choose from rafting, canoeing, game viewing, an elephant back safari or even a bungee jump!
“We anticipate this race to grow into a large ‘must do’ event in Africa, maybe even rivalling some of the bigger South African events such as the Two Oceans marathon etc., but a lot better and more fun!” said Addision.
A few other reasons to visit Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe in August:
1) The only race in the world that crosses an international border (the Vic Falls bridge to Zambia), and is run in a National Park and World Heritage Site.
3) Full and half marathons, as well as a 5 km fun run.
5) Attracts runners from over 24 countries around the world.
6) Run in one of the most scenic places on the continent.
