Fivestar PR and clients ’switch off’ for Earth Hour 2009
Hospitality specialist FIVESTAR PR and its clients Singita Game Reserves and Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Retreat will take a stand against global warming on Saturday March 28, at 20h30, in a show of support for the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour 2009 global initiative.
Acting on the unified call for action on climate change, FIVESTAR PR, along with its award-winning clients, will join over 500 cities in 75 countries that have already signed up to take part in the 60 minute global ‘lights out’ campaign.
Says FIVESTAR PR founder and owner manager, Janie van der Spuy: ‘We are proud to represent two of South Africa’s leading safari lodge operators, with whom we share a passion for conservation, and a real concern about global warming. With these issues close to our hearts, it is essential for us to join the WWF Earth Hour initiative, along with our clients Bushmans Kloof and Singita.’
‘From a PR perspective, the influence of a global initiative such as Earth Hour, which relies on cutting edge electronic communication technology to disseminate its urgent message, and so rally the support of the planet, is immeasurable. FIVESTAR PR would like to be one of its ardent champions, and we therefore appeal to our colleagues in the hospitality and communications industries to join us, and sign up at www.earthhour.org.za‘, she concluded.
Relais & Chateaux members Bushmans Kloof and Singita, are both committed to a workable sustainable development strategy within the framework of their business models. Both companies have an innate understanding of the devastating impact that climate change will have on the planet, for both humans and wildlife.
During Earth Hour, guests at the nine Singita lodges in Southern and East Africa will sit down to an ‘unplugged’ green-themed Bush Banquet in a breathtaking outdoor setting in each of the reserves. At exactly 20h30 guests will be able to view the lodge lights going down in the far distance as generators are turned off, and the bush turns to complete darkness and quiet.
At Bushmans Kloof in the breathtaking Cederberg, guests will be dining at Embers, an extraordinary open-air dining location on the reserve. At 20h30 a candle-lit dinner will be served under a blanket of stars as all electric lights are turned off, and the velvety African night sky illuminates the wilderness.
Earth Hour indeed…
