Tourvest buys Silver Star Tours

Johannesburg – Tourvest Inbound Operations (TIO), the inbound destination management division of the Tourvest group of companies, has acquired a majority stake in tour operator Sol Do Sul Tours trading as Silver Star Tours. Silver Star Tours is a major player in the Indian source market and its acquisition is designed to strengthen TIO’s presence in this growing sector.  According to South African Tourism’s latest research report, arrivals from India for the quarter April to June 2008 increased by 14.2% compared to the previous year.

Silver Star Tours will join TIO’s other leading brands which consist of Welcome Tourism Services, Focus Tours, Your Africa, Journeys2Africa.com, Global Conferences Africa, Sense of Africa, Sunbound Tours and Incentives and Crown Travel.  The transaction will be effective on 1 February 2009.

TIO chief operating officer Martin Wiest says the acquisition is in line with the company’s stated intention of maintaining its leadership position in the inbound Sub-Saharan market and that Silver Star Tours will help TIO take full advantage of the growing number of inbound Indian arrivals.  “The acquisition also brings with it strong management in Jenny Da Luz, the founder of Silver Star Tours, who will continue to serve the company as managing director,” he says.
