Wild Horizons Wildlife Trust takes off

Victoria Falls – The Wild Horizons Wildlife Trust is a non-profit organisation created to rehabilitate orphaned or injured elephant and other wildlife, promote conservation and conserve the natural environment. At the same time the Trust endeavours to educate, assist and empower local communities.

Based at the Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, the organisation is dedicated to protecting the area’s fabulous fauna and flora, and uplifting the local inhabitants. To date, the Trust has been greatly involved in saving and caring for orphaned elephant, often having to import vast quantities or pricey ingredients to nurture these big babies.

Some of their other projects range from the anti-poaching programmes and looking after orphaned wildlife to providing schools with water and supplies, and creating awareness of HIV/AIDS. The Trust is spearheaded by Wild Horizons, and sets an inspiring standard for anyone with a socio-environmental conscience. To date Wild Horizons has been able to fund the Trust’s activities through their commercial operation.

It takes hard work and deep-seated dedication to realise such a project, and it is this passion that binds the many individuals who have contributed their time and commitment to the Trust and its aims. The Trustees comprise of like-minded environmentalists from the local community.

Managing the Trust are Roger Parry and Jessica Dawson. Roger and Jessica bring with them more than 15 years of experience in the wildlife tourism industry, and an additional 10 years working for the Zimbabwe Department of National Parks and Wildlife. Their passion for wildlife is complemented by a wide range of abilities, among these specialist skills in wildlife darting and capture.

The Victoria Falls form a perfect backdrop to the Trust’s activities. Eternally spectacular, the Falls remind us that even though Africa’s beauty is ancient, it is up to all of us to conserve it for generations to come.
