SA Tourism unveils YouTube campaign

SA Tourism unveils YouTube campaign Johannesburg – South African Tourism wants people to show them, and the world, just how much fun a South African holiday can be.

The organisation invites YouTube users to upload their craziest impressions of South Africa to create an ad about the country in a new, interactive campaign designed both to get the world talking about South Africa and to promote the many, many exciting and invigorating travel experiences the destination offers.

Entrants are dared to be as creative and crazy as possible in recording an ad that reflects the spirit of South Africa where just about anything (within the confines of the South African law, of course) goes. The creator of the most viewed and highest rated video will win an all expenses paid dream trip for two to South Africa.

This is the first of numerous online campaigns that South African Tourism is engaging in. Each campaign is designed to help the destination interact with travelers and prove to people that South Africa offers almost endless variety and depth of awesome leisure travel experiences.

The campaign invites web surfers to visit http://www.youtube.com/user/southafricantourism and follow the trouble-free instructions to enter and upload their footage, pick up some tips to create a great video and enter the competition.

“We want people to show a sense of adventure, to be bold and to be brave. We want them to push their imagination to the limit to create that winning video,” says William Price, e-business global head at South African Tourism.

Price: “This campaign is about engaging with YouTube users and challenging them to be gutsy and have fun when interacting with South Africa. We want them to see that South Africa has so much to offer as an adventure destination of choice where they can live on the wild side and share these experiences with their friends. We are appealing to users’ intrepid natures where they want to push their body and minds to the limit to create ads that reflect their interpretation of the destination.”

The competition runs from 15 November 2008 – 15 February 2009. Visit www.southafrica.net/channel for further information.
