Thebe Exhibitions to host World Holiday & Travel Fair
Northgate – The World Holiday & Travel Fair (WHTF) is back after more than 10 years. The event will be hosted by leading exhibitions and events group, Thebe Exhibitions and Projects (Thebe) at the Coca Cola dome from 17 to 19 April 2009.
International travel is within reach of many South Africans, a result of a feast of affordable travel options and a growing desire among South Africans to explore the world. With South Africans increasingly catching the travel bug, the travel industry simply cannot afford to miss this fair.
WHTF is unique within Southern Africa as the only fair of its kind to showcase international destinations and travel options while offering travel bugs special offers and the facility to book and pay for their next holiday there and then.
“Thebe will inject innovation and creativity and promises an experience of a lifetime and fun for the whole family”, comments General Manager, Glynis Anderson. “After all, the show is about bringing the travel industry and its market together in one venue. We are going to pull out all the stops to ensure this fair attracts the right target market and delivers value for exhibitors. From tour packages and weekend getaways to luxury holidays and business trips, WHTF is going to be the place to be to for industry players and travellers alike.”

Anderson points out that we cannot ignore that more than 1,7 million South Africans took to the air to global destinations last year. Global travel remains on the up with South Africa outstripping global outbound statistics. What’s more, continues Anderson, “the recently published Master-Card Worldwide Consumer Lifestyles Survey (Business Day, 28 August 2008), shows that 73% of South Africans polled intended travelling internationally (personal and business – up from 70% in 2007 and 42% in 2006) while 50% of these would spend more.”
“A travel culture is growing among South Africans and World Holiday & Travel Fair will be the industry showpiece of the year,” concludes Anderson.
WHTF aims to attract more than 200 exhibitors, with more than 80% representative of international travel options. Opening day (Friday) will provide the opportunity for industry players to network and attend workshops while Friday to Sunday will be all about family fun as visitors get to see what is on offer and attend exciting workshops and activities.
