Eastern Cape Tourism Board CEO departs
Pretoria – The Eastern Cape Tourism Board (ECTB) has this week announced operations will carry out as normal following the departure of its chief executive officer (CEO), Advocate Naledi Burwana-Bisiwe.“The departure of the Advocate Burwana-Bisiwe does not mean the organisation is in crisis mode, the Eastern Cape Tourism Board will keep operation as normal,” said Eddie Marafane, the ECTB acting chief executive said on Thursday.
ECTB has on Wednesday announced that Executive Manager for Destination Marketing Mr Marafane will take over the role of chief executive on an acting capacity until the recruitment process to appoint the new CEO was completed.
He said the current six executive managers have the capability to take the organisation forward by implementing business plan as was crafted by Advocate Burwana-Bisiwe and them.
“During the past 10 months, the ECTB, management and staff have worked hard to craft the organisation’s strategy.
“We all understand what needs to be done because we have been part of the strategy development process.
“The board and management of ECTB feel that the public entity is stable, the operations of the organisation, the positive staff morale and understanding of what each person in the organisation needs to do to achieve the ECTB mandate,” said Mr Marafane.
He, however, assured all tourism stakeholders, partners and tourism players that commitment will be met.
ECTB outgoing CEO Advocate Burwana-Bisiwe has been appointed to head the Eastern Cape Liquor Board from 1 April.
The Eastern Cape is the second largest of South Africa’s nine provinces and its landscape ranges from the lush, evergreen Tsitsikamma Forest to the rugged Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area, the southern slopes of the Drakensberg and the arid Great Karoo.
It is known as the land of rolling hills, endless sweeps of rocky coves, towering mountain ranges and verdant forests.
The Eastern Cape enjoyed an average of 6.4 percent of 6 million foreign visitors to South Africa between January and September 2006, with an average of 3.3 million domestic trips in 2006 in the same period.
