Flight Centre warns on fake travel advert on daily newspaper(s)

Johannesburg – Please take note of an advert that was placed in today’s Die Son, amongst other publications. The person who placed the advert has tried to pass themselves off as a legitimate travel company (i.e. Flight Centre) and offers travellers various “international flights for as cheap as 1800 rand” and “20% discount”.This company has absolutely nothing to do with Flight Centre and Flight Centre distance themselves from this advert, the contents and the contact person completely. Andrew Stark, Product and Marketing General Manager for Flight Centre states that “Flight Centre will take whatever steps necessary to prevent travellers being defrauded by imposters, and has informed ASATA, the travel agent governing body of this fraudulent advert.”

Flight Centre urges travellers not to do business with a travel company that is not ASATA and IATA affiliated, as they will have no recourse should they be defrauded. As ‘Flight Centre’ is a registered trademark Stark added that the company would be taking legal steps to prevent the fraudster from capitalizing on their trademarked brand and swindling the South African public. He warned that travellers should not be duped by the advert.

“This is a scam and we hope that travellers do not fall for this disgraceful attempt to fleece them of their hard-earned travel spend.” For valid travel specials and authentic travel deals contact Flight Centre on -0860 400 777 or visit www.flightcentre.co.za.

  1. It is really upsetting that people do this type of actions to hurt the credibility of others. That should be legally penalized.

Yeah, yeah whatever. FLIGHT CENTRE, what a waste of time and money. My advice to all is don’t ever use flight center ever. We called to confirm all our travel documents a day before we left on our holiday. They said all was fine and went on only to arrive on Munich were our transfers and accommodation were not paid for. And we were stranded. we had to pay another R35K over and above what we already paid, we had no other choice. called them the following day and they apparently new nothing of the company they used had gone into liquidation this however was in the Fin24 as I have recently read already on the 13 Jan 09, and they still insist they knew nothing, my conclusion. DONT EVER USE FLIGHT CENTRE!!! EVER!!!!!
