Sandton Convention Centre appoints Sales and Marketing GM

Sandton – Lindelwa Isabelle has been appointed General Manager: Sales and Marketing of Sandton Convention Centre, with effect from 01 April 2007. She is responsible for spearheading the Sales and Marketing strategy at Sandton Convention Centre, supported by a team of nine staff comprising the international and domestic sales teams, and the marketing team.

Lindelwa has extensive experience in the tourism industry, having joined Sandton Convention Centre from advertising agency, Ogilvy SA, where she worked on the SA Tourism account. Prior to that, she was Senior Marketing Manager at the Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA), from 2001 to 2005. Says Lindelwa: “While I was at the GTA, I was tasked with spending my budget allocation to market Gauteng worldwide as a tourism destination, focusing more on business tourists.

With my job at Sandton Convention Centre, the focus in terms of target markets is the same. However, my key responsibility is to oversee the sales and marketing teams and ensure that we sell this fantastic venue and bring in the money to meet our targets! It is an exciting challenge and one that I am really looking forward to. ”Sandton Convention Centre (SCC) is an established brand and, being part of the Southern Sun group, brings with it many opportunities for the venue.

One of the areas I would like to focus on is expanding the appeal of SCC to a broader audience, over and above conferences and exhibitions, to allow for greater usage of space even during the traditionally quieter periods. “Together with the professional team at SCC, I am looking forward to ensuring that our clients experience the world-class facilities and personalised service for which this convention centre is renowned,” says Lindelwa.

Lindelwa grew up in Soweto, was schooled at a convent in what was then Transkei (now Eastern Cape) and graduated with a BA Degree majoring in History, Psychology and African Literature from Wits University. Having completed her Honours in African Literature:Publishing Studies, and receiving an award for her dissertation, she moved into the publishing world for a number of years. From there, Lindelwa joined the Gauteng Gambling Board as its PR Officer and completed a PR Diploma through PRISA, before moving into the tourism world as Marketing Manager of the GTA in 2001.

She studied for a marketing diploma through UNISA, and is currently enrolled at the University of Johannesburg where she is completing a two-year Advanced Diploma in Business Management course. Lindelwa is married and has a seven-year-old son. ends Editor’s note: Sandton Convention Centre is located in the heart of Sandton’s hotel, business and entertainment district. The centre offers easy access to more than 5 000 hotel rooms (ranging from economy to deluxe), is adjacent to some of the country’s premium shopping and entertainment complexes (Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square), and provides 10 600 secure parking bays.
